In May of 1998, Atul Gawande wrote an article on Slate where he outlined the human cost of the crippling U.S. embargo on Cuba. While he made an effort to highlight the wrongs of the embargo, he still managed to justify the “pain and death” which it produces. Because, of course he did!
It’s conceivable we could justify continuing to cause pain and death if the embargo fueled enough discontent to cause Castro’s overthrow.
Gawande is what people call a “liberal”! He’s a professor at Harvard and currently serves as the Assistant Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development for Global Health.
Don’t you find it amazing how a “liberal” and a medical doctor could justify “pain and death”?
What ever happened to “First do no harm”?
Things that make you go hmmm…
